Gday All.
Blowing off Steam and trying to educate here at the same time. I was
asked today to fly an engineer to a ground stricken aeroplane that was
stuck away from it's home base. The pilot had an undercarriage problem
and was forced to do a manual gear extension. Upon first inspection of
the aircraft, I was pretty upset. This once beautiful bird looked a
total disgrace. The outside of the aircraft was covered in
dust, dirt, oil, carbon trails and....wait for it...hydraulic fluid. The hydraulic
fluid on the fuselage was both old and fresh and went right up to the
tip of the tail. The hydraulic line had a small leak in it and
everytime the gear was extended or retracted a small amount of fluid
was leaked. It probably took a few weeks of flying before the amount
of fluid in the system didn't extend the gear to the locking point and
a manual extension had to be performed to use the emergency resevour
to lock the legs. Back to the education side of this situation, for
all those currently studying for their commercial or entering the
workplace, please consider the following:

Gday All. After reading recent comments about finding work, I felt I may be able to help by adding some advice to those looking for work based on my own travels. I would stress that the following tips are based on my own opinions and experience and may not reflect the thoughts of others. These comments are generally aimed at those chasing the aviation career path but are valid for all those involved in flying. Please feel free to comment or add any tips to the Blog to assist those who are new to the commercial world.
