For those of you out there, hanging out for the "new" 406 PLB's, manufactured by KTI, well bad new's, I'm afraid. Talking to them this morning, I was told the expected release date has been pushed out from the second week in August ( this year ), until sometime in October ( this year). Seems they are still having problems with certification. They also tell me that when they are released, there will will not ( should not ) be an issue with ample supplies being available, with no waiting time being anticipated, especially for those that have pre ordered them with suppliers, or those who have already given KTI their contact details (phone number/email address ) . I suspect that when the new 406 Mhz PLB,'s are out, there will probably be a rash of the other brand 406 Mhz PLB's on Ebay, going cheap, as a result of people updating their unit to the latest state of the art unit. Those who have (had) the last KTI 121.5 PLB, will understand my last comment.

More to follow. The CASA Director of Aviation Safety Mr John F McCormack has announced that aircraft operated under the Recreational Aviation Association ( RAA ), will not be allowed to operate in Controlled Airspace ( CTA ). I suppose the management team of RAA, will be calling this decision, a win for the "dark side", their term, not mine. I think now that those RAA members who have, or are going to complete the Controlled Airspace training, will now have to rethink their options. I reckon the RAA members will not be " happy little vegemites " about this " golden promise " , their management team has been promising them. Remember you read it first on " downwind,com.au.
