I note that all of the US podcasters bang on about "Leinies" beer as being necessary to the aviation podcasting process. Never heard of it before, but I think it might be this stuff...

Leinenkugel's

It seems to me that the entire aviation podcasting community is actually the marketing division of this brewery. All of the podcasters are probably the same guy. Elaborate, and very clever.

Anyone at PCDU tried this beer? Can it be bought in Oz? Is there really a good American beer?

What is the official PCDU inspirational beverage?

Great question mate. I've never seen that brand anywhere here, but I've just fired an email off to the company, and I'll publish the reply when we receive it.

Oh, and for the record, I produce most of the shows fuelled by Nescafe, but I do enjoy a Cascade Premium occasionally. Great Tasmanian beer.

I'd reccommend these guy's Wigram Brewing Company. A few aviation themed beer's. Wigram was where Kingsford-Smith landed and was until 1996-ish the home of the RNZAF's flight training (when we had an air force!).

GV: Had a look at the Wigram site. Very interesting... must investigate further. Their products do appear to have nutritional value.

I'm curious though... what is "aviation themed beer"? A slight hint of avgas? A subtle infusion of Jet-A1?

ausflier: "...for the record, I drink Nescafe." Yep, me too. Good answer. Doesn't explain your podcast with the missing first days of January and eating expired pizza very well, but it is a good answer.

Don't worry Turb - occasionally Steve does hit the turps

I gotta say I'm a beer-slob and usually get by with my "comfort beer" of Melbourne Bitter. That or Carlton Draft. Sad but true.

Mind you, now that Mike's hassling us, I should start trying a few of the Lion Nathan Kiwi beers, eh?

I used to drink Sam Adams when I lived in the USA. Haven't tried Leinies but would if I could find them down here. Will have to check with the guys at the Lambs Go Bar in Fitzroy (www.lambsgobar.com.au) as they have an extensive range of beers in their fridge.

Hmmm - how about a beer-themed tweet-up where we can try all sorts of different beers, especially aviation related if possible?

I'm getting a sense of a great idea in the making...

However, I have not been able to find much in the way of aviation themed beer. The only Aussie beer I have found so far with an aviation theme is

Extra Tiger Stout
(Alas, it hasn't been made for over 100 years, but these are just details).

What about this as a thought...
Make Your Own Beer

Just down the road (for you guys, at least), and you can add your own PCDU label. They reckon they've got 100 different flavours to choose from, so some research might be required. Unfortunately, Steve, I do not see a Nescafe flavoured variety. Financial contributions from all attendees and you could be onto a revenue-neutral, brain in neutral good thing.

Bet the APG boys don't have their own beer label!

Had a bottle of Arrogant Bastards Ale a while back. Was about 7.2%. Went down well. I heard the guys on Pilot's Flight Podlog (I think?) talking about it. My favourite beer shop in Wellington Regional Wines and Spirits had a recent shipment of beers from the U S&A in stock. Very choice bro!

Ever tried Delirium Tremens? Belgian Pale Ale in a ceramic bottle with pink elephants on it. 8.5% alcohol by volume.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delirium_Tremens_(beer)

Will have to check & see if the Lambs Go Bar guys still have it around. Worth it just for the bottle

Hey guys....here's the reply I got from Leinenkugals

Dear Steve~
Thank you for taking the time to contact us; however, I am sorry to tell you Leinenkugel's isn't available outside the US. Thank you.

To life and Leinie's~

Ah well, I thought as much. Anyway, not to worry, as much as I love the USA, they don't do beer particularly well.
